Locally Grown History

Locally Grown History -Welcome to Locally Grown History 2009!
Join us for our 2nd season celebrating our region’s rich heritage.

WHEN:   From May 30th through October 18th, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the historical and agricultural treasures found in our region’s backyard.
WHO:    Locally Grown History is a collaborative project that seeks to highlight and promote our region’s historical resources in engaging and coordinated ways.  Our focus is on connecting historical communities, history enthusiasts, and visitors, as well as cultural and agricultural entities.
WHY:   Historical Societies and Museums as well as farms, orchards, and vineyards are important because many have historic significance and add to the enjoyment of the northwest corner of Connecticut.  We believe that our historic sites have something for almost every interest and, when partnered with a visit to farms and agricultural sites, provide residents and visitors alike with the perfect outing—without traveling far and wide.
WHERE:   48 towns in Northwest Connecticut are included in Locally Grown History.   A project map, with an integrated History Hunt “passport” will be available on our website and at all of the participating locations listed below.

The Gaylordsville Historical Society

The Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department

The New Milford Chamber of Commerce

The Danbury Railroad Museum

RailServe.com: The Internet Railroad Directory - Guide to 12,000 rail-related websites including train travel, model railroading, railfan resources, train simulators, and railroad industry sites.

American-Rails.com, a website dedicated not only to bringing awareness about our country’s railroad history, both past and present, but also as a resource tool describing and educating about American railroading in general.
